SF -Wonderful Jazz-Town

More Jazz in San Francisco! Playing with several groups and jazz musicians in SF. What a fun!

Pics:
1 Jamming with the „Twelve String Roulette“ at the Rite Spot Cafe in San Francisco. What an amazing evening!
2 Fun modern jazz session in Precita Park, San Francisco. Great musicians! Great weather! There’s jazz in the air.
3 Great playing with Mikiya Matsuda on the bass and Vic Wong on the guitar at the The Liberties Public House, SF! People were having fun and dancing!
4 Turk Murphey with Leon Oakley was one of my first records! Now I have met Leon in real life in San Francisco! Amazing! He played with his band & Mike Lipskin for the South Bay Trad Jazz. Afterwards there was a relaxed session with local musicians, hosted by Ryan Calloway.

Mike Lipskin
also shot some of the memorable still photographs shown in A Great Day In Harlem. He was there the day of the Esquire photo shoot not as a photographer but as a protégé of Willie “The Lion” Smith. Lipskin went on to become an accomplished jazz pianist in the Harlem Stride style. He remains one of the very few contemporary stride pianists as well as one of the few people writing new stride piano music. Lipskin has performed at Carnegie Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, and the Newport Jazz Festival, among other venues. His music can be heard on recordings for Buskirk Productions and Downtown Records. Lipskin, who previously worked as a record producer at RCA for 13 years, now practices trademark, entertainment, and real estate law in San Francisco.

Great Concerts in D.C.

My last concert was on Saturday, June 1 at Alfio´s, „Ralf Böcker & Friends“:

https://alfios.com/specialEvents.html with these really famous guys:

Alan Dale, drums, played with Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson and many more, Eric Glaser, bass, (Eric spent 23 years in New Orleans where, as a jazz bassist, he was a regular member of the Dukes of Dixieland and Pete Fountain bands. He also performed with Al Hirt. He was named New Orleans Magazine traditional jazz bassist of the year in 1997.)

Bob Boguslaw on piano, played in the White House, with Wynton Marsalis, with Henning Hoene, Louis Bellson and many more.

Dave Ericson, trumpet. He has played in the HOTS Jazz Orchestra, Doc Scantlin and his Imperial Palms Orchestra, Swing Shift, Laissez Foure (trad jazz), Blue Crescent Syncopators, the New Columbia Swing Orchestra, and Dave Robinson’s Conservatory Classic Jazz Band, and led a group called D.C. Dixie.

Looking forward to playing with these great musicians!
